I am a wedding and portrait photographer making my home along North Carolina’s Crystal Coast. I’m constantly striving for improvement by attending workshops and semminars, via online educational programs and through active participation in online forums for professional photographers. I have had the pleasure of studying with some of the top wedding and portrait photographers in the business today.
My approach to photography is simple. I combine a documentary approach with fashion-editorial portraiture techniques to capture mages that are fresh, modern and fun. I’m not overbearing nor controlling during your session. My laid back personality helps to reduce the stress of being in front of the camera, rather than adding to it.
Of course my use of fashion-editorial lighting techniques plays an even bigger role in my studio portraiture. Whether on location at one of the local North Carolina beaches, or in my Newport, NC studio, artistic lighting plays a big role in what I do. I’m not a heavy-handed, old-school, poser. I want you to look natural and comfortable in your photographs. After all, one of the primary goals of making a portrait is to have a bit of the subject’s personality show in the image. Sure I’ll give you a bit of direction but I’m not going to lay hands on, position your head with a push or a nudge, or any of that style of posing you may remember from your school photos.
I’m a little bit of a clown… have somewhat of a “dry sense of humor”… and want the experience to be fun and relaxed for both of us. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your wedding day, a studio portrait session or a location shoot on the beach, having your picture taken shouldn’t be unpleasant.
